The AS8650 is a companion IC which combines power management and CAN transceiver in one high performance analog device for the supply of automotive electronic control units and provides the physical interface to the CAN communication boardnet. The device powered by the battery, provides four output voltage levels of which three outputs can be individually programmed in the range of 1.8V to 3.3V with a max current consumption of 100 mA per voltage output. An integrated DC-DC converter with an efficiency rate higher than 85% for the 5V output supplies the three voltage regulators and ensures a voltage stability of less than 2.5%. The combination of DC-DC converter with low-drop-out voltage regulators makes the device highly efficient for automotive ECU supplies.

The device provides a high-speed CAN interface up to 1Mbps communication rate conforming to ISO 11898. The device can enter into operation mode via a remote wake-up sequence on the CAN bus lines or with the local wake pin. The watchdog unit provides three timing functions for start-up, operation, and standby supervision, adjustable via I²C and SPI configuration.

The AS8650 provides brown-out indication and undervoltage control for battery supply and also for the four voltage outputs which can be signalled to the microcontroller via the SPI interface. All diagnosis and status flags can be accessed with the SPI interface.

The AS8650 is available in a QFN 6x6 36-pin package.
