austriamicrosystems breaks ground on construction of new IC test facility in Calamba City, Philippines

Testing capacity set to double to meet growing demand for austriamicrosystems' high-performance analog semiconductors

Calamba (1 February, 2012) – austriamicrosystems (SIX: AMS), a leading global designer and manufacturer of high performance analog ICs, is today holding a ceremony to break ground on a new, larger semiconductor testing facility in Calamba City, Philippines.

The new 6,960m2 facility in Carmelray Industrial Park II will replace the existing 3,452m2 facility on a neighbouring site, which no longer has enough capacity to meet the rising demand for austriamicrosystems’ high-performance analog semiconductors. The existing site shipped 258 million units in 2011.

The new building, which is expected to be completed in October, will be able to doubling the capacity over the existing site. It is expected to provide sufficient testing throughput to meet austriamicrosystems’ requirements through to 2015. The 28,185m2 plot on which the new factory is to be built is owned by austriamicrosystems, and allows scope to expand further by adding extra factory buildings.

The facility will provide an excellent working environment, with a staff canteen providing fresh food for shift workers, ample parking spaces, and a beautifully landscaped exterior featuring trees and lawns.

The groundbreaking ceremony takes place at 10am at 2 Makiling Drive, Carmelray Industrial Park II, Barangay Tulo, Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines 4027. As part of the ceremony, the Managing Director of austriamicrosystems (Philippines) Inc, Marvin Cruz, will lay a time capsule in the ground.

Mr Cruz said: “austriamicrosystems’ decision to invest in a doubling of test capacity in the Philippines is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our Philippines workforce. We are looking forward to moving into the new, state-of-the-art factory and supporting the continued growth of austriamicrosystems’ advanced analog semiconductor business.”
