austriamicrosystems scoops 'Most Innovative LED Driver' award at the Electronic Engineering & Product World Power Supply Products Awards 2010
High-precision AS3696 LED driver IC features unique power feedback regulation and enables 3D effects in even the slimmest LCD TVs
Shanghai, 18 May 2011 – austriamicrosystems (SIX: AMS), a leading global designer and manufacturer of high-performance analog ICs, has been named winner of the 'Most Innovative LED Driver' award at the Electronic Engineering & Product World Power Supply Awards 2010. Its high-precision AS3696 4-channel LED driver was selected from a host of competing products through a combination of online voting and the decision of a judging panel of industry experts appointed by Electronic Engineering and Product World (EEPW).
Designed for edge lighting in LCD televisions, the AS3696 LED Driver is the first to include a special control mechanism for 3D effects and extends austriamicrosystems' portfolio of LED BLU (backlight unit) drivers for the next generation of LCD TVs. It also boasts a unique power feedback regulation feature that controls external power supplies, reducing power consumption and providing the highest system efficiency available in the LED backlit LCD TV segment.
Commenting on their decision, the judging panel said, "the field of products in this year's EEPW Awards was very strong, but we chose the AS3696 because of its innovative, simplified design that not only provides high performance, but high efficiency at the same time. This put the product head and shoulders above its rivals, and EEPW readers agreed with us in the online voting."
The Awards are organized annually by Electronic Engineering & Product World and are now in their eighth year. The magazine is jointly published by the Chinese Science Technology Information Institute and US publisher IDG. It is read by engineers and other industry insiders, and these expert readers contribute to the judging decisions by taking part in an online poll in the months leading up to the awards. Results are decided based on the online vote and the judges' assessments. Best Innovation Awards and Best Application Awards are handed out in six different categories, including LED drivers – 12 awards in total. The award ceremony will take place in Shenzhen on May 18th.
