Power Converters
Power converters are widely used in markets like photovoltaic micro inverters and string inverters, wind energy inverters, mobile power inverters, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies), power line conditioners, fuel gauges, and other similar applications. They include not only DC to AC conversion but also DC to DC conversion. ams' products concentrate on several key areas of power converters, such as improving the performance and stability over temperature that allow for a more precise regulation, reducing the overall system cost and increasing the reliability over a long lifetime under harsh conditions. They have a special focus on sensing, monitoring, and converting to a digital value the voltages and currents across the converter, especially those that are isolated from the microcontroller such as the grid signal in solar inverters. The digital values of the sensed signals will then be used by the microcontroller to perform the regulation. ams' products offer better performance at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions due to a sensing concept based on the use of resistors and a communication with the microcontroller via digital isolation. Therefore, the products are suitable for both low cost applications such as micro inverters or power optimizers and higher performance applications such as string inverters, power conditioners or UPS.
